New to the Repertoire: Beef Bulgogi Bowl of Goodness

Image
Last week in our rush to get stocked up for the quarantine, we stocked up on protein, but chicken was hard to come by. Normally, I would frown on eating such large quantities of red meat. But the stores have absolutely no chicken right now, so we have beef short rib and rack of lamb instead. I will eat them because it is what I have available, but it doesn't mean I can't also load up on vegetables and whole grains! Ingredients 1 lb beef short rib 1/2 cup chopped onion 2 Tbsp honey 2 Tbsp soy sauce 1 Tbsp sesame oil 1 Tbsp fresh ginger, chopped 4 cloves garlic, halved 1 cup shaved carrots 1 cup finely shredded red cabbage 1/2 cup coarsely shredded cucumber 1/4 cup snipped fresh cilantro Directions 1. Trim fat from meat. Place meat in a resealable plastic bag set in a shallow dish. For marinade, in a blender or food processor combine onion, honey, water, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger and garlic. Cover and blend or process until smooth. Pour marinade over meat. ...

The Irish know their Cheddar, and their Butter

It's a tradition in my family to celebrate holidays at our convenience . Jewish holidays? Ehh, Saturday works better with my schedule. Christmas? I can wait til the weekend to see that side of the family. Valentine's Day? As long as it's in the same week...   I feel the same way about St. Patrick's Day . But some how this equally long-winded recipe did not have the same effect, probably because of the beer :) But seriously, it did take four hours to make.  In fact, we had to break out the extra Irish cheddar and crackers to balance out the wine we were drinking. I kept telling myself that it was only about 45 minutes per serving - and t...

New Restaurant Trend

Image
This past week was Restaurant Week in Baltimore , so my roommate and I made reservations for dinner Friday and Today at an Italian restaurant and a steak house. At the steak house, we both got the prime rib dinner with salads, sides and dessert for a great price , but found ourselves with more food than we knew what to do with.  Well, I think this steak house had the right idea. When they came back with my leftovers all packaged up they also attached a card with this website that had recipes using leftover steak . I think this would be a great trend for restaurants to start! Less overeating and less waste? That's what I'm talking about!
